All memories fade into the ether

until only echoes remain.

And yet in dreams, subconscious thoughts

replay out-of-date

tapes on a cinematic screen.

When ghosts of the past rise from the mists of time,

blink to clear your vision.

Never reach out to hold what was once a bad decision.

Resist posing questions as to why.

Your mind, the director of this black and white movie,

loves to play tricks.

What was is gone forever.

The here and now is all that matters.

Beyond the veil, there may be something better,

that we will never know until we cross over.

All ghosts of the past have memories attached.

We cannot determine who rises from the ashes.

Strike a match to reignite or sweep aside.
